The 5 AM Club - Own You Morning, Elevate Your Life
I used to roll out of bed and dive straight into Slack.
Coffee in hand, inbox chaos, brain blurry.
Sounds productive, right? Nope.
That was just reaction mode.
And then I picked up The 5 AM Club by Robin Sharma.
And it rocked my perspective.
Sharma’s core message is that,
Your morning shapes your day and your life.
That first hour is your foothold on focus, energy & growth.
Own your morning first hour, and the rest follows.
But for me, it’s not about waking at 5 AM,
it’s about what you do when you’re up.
And here’s where most people get it wrong..
copying someone else’s routine won’t copy their results.
I don’t wake up at 5 AM.
Never gonna happen.
Because let’s be real, what works for Sharma or some founder bragging about “4am hustle”, might not fit my life.
What I did take away and make my own from this book:
⬩ Victory Hour (20/20/20) - Sharma said to Move, Reflect, Grow first thing in the morning. I adapted this to my mornings. I move by stretching. I reflect by journaling. I grow by reading. But on my clock. I usually do this at 8am, because 5am is impossible for my schedule and lifestyle.
⬩ Distraction detox - When I sleep I put my phone on "do not disturb" so in the morning my phone doesn’t get the first word in anymore, my ideas do. No phone, no Slack, no algorithms in hour one. It's a sacred window of my creative headspace.
⬩ 90/90/1 Rule - I block off a 90 focused minutes for deep work on one high-impact project. No multitasking, just focus. I protect my deep work block, but it starts when my work time starts, not when a book says it should. I do this in the afternoon, when my kids are at school and I can go all in.
The difference? I applied what I learned from the book and built a routine that fuels my energy, grows my business, and aligned to my season of life.
And that’s the real productivity unlock, alignment. Not imitation.
Instead of forcing yourself into someone else’s schedule, lifestyle or work style.. why not design your routine around the life you want to build?
So my question..
Are you designing a routine around your life or forcing yourself into someone else’s?
Let's talk about how you design your life, maybe I can give a tip or two. Join this conversation on LinkedIn.
